CSR - Corporate Social Responsibility in the Social Economy Companies of Andalusia

OBJECTIVES: Study of Social Economy business people in regards to Corporate Social Responsibility and good practices, with the following objectives:

  • The raising of awareness among Social Economy company managers about Corporate Social Responsibility.
  • The promotion of the concept as a Management Tool for the Social Commitment and Competitiveness of companies.

DESCRIPTION: The study begins with a contextualisation of the concept of CSR for its better understanding and an account of the theoretical framework within which this work unfolds. To obtain a global view of the implications of CSR, responses will be sought to the following questions:

  • What is Corporate Social Responsibility?
  • To whom must the company be socially responsible?
  • Why must we be socially responsible?
  • How do we do this? In other words, which tools do we use for its application?

The team that designed this Study have opted for a conceptualisation that is perhaps more didactic, but also, maybe, clearer.

Finally, the attitudes of the Social Economy business people are analysed, in regards to the concept of CSR as a global management tool for their companies. Given the nature of the study, the conclusions it presents have been basically collected using qualitative investigation techniques; however, in the group meetings organised, this is not the only information collection system used: a questionnaire about CSR practices has been designed for the purpose, used on two occasions during the Study, which has presented interesting quantitative information to complement the gathered qualitative information.

The qualitative technique used was the Discussion Group. The latter is based on the group as a representative unit that expresses certain ideas, values, opinions, attitudes, etc. that are dominant in a certain collective (in the case that concerns us). The members of a discussion group express their opinions about a matter of common interest. The people contribute information without altering the other people’s information; this is not an attempt to impose, but to share ideas.

In each of the discussion groups, different techniques have been used, following a predetermined script that assists the group work; however, depending upon the composition of the group itself, when the discussion is held, the opinions entered in the quantitative evaluation questionnaires, as well as the circumstances or incidents that have occurred, these discussions have been varying and growing around the proposed technical structure.
