COAG was formally and legally constituted in 1977, based on the unanimous and supreme will of its Territorial Unions, in the form of an Assembly, which was, since then, the highest regularly functioning body of the organisation. COAG promotes sustainable agriculture in a live rural setting, which must produce quality products in sufficient amounts, respecting and maintaining the equilibrium with the environment and ensuring a worthy standard of living for the agrarian population. In other words, promoting a sustainable agriculture with agrarian policies that impede the current process of diminishing agrarian assets and providing stability for the rural population.
